Quantum Break is an action-adventure science fiction third-person shooter video game developed by Remedy Entertainment and published by Microsoft Studios. The game was released for Microsoft Windows and Xbox One world widely on 5 April 2016.
The game is centered on Jack Joyce, the protagonist, as he tries to stop Paul Serene, a close friend and CEO of Monarch Solutions, from enforcing the End of Time after a failed time-machine experiment that gave jack time manipulation powers. The game is mostly a third-person shooter but includes elements of a platform game in less action –oriented segments.
The game features episode of an integrated live-action television show, featuring the actual actors of the characters, interacting with the player’s choices, displaying the outcome of the choice made.
The team consulted actual scientists in creating the fictional science in this game. While the video game portion was developed internally by Remedy and directed by studio veteran Sam Lake, the TV portion of the game was developed by Lifeboat Productions and directed by Ben Ketai.
Shawn Ashmore, Aidan Gillen and Lance Reddick played important roles in the game. The game uses a new engine developed by Remedy, the Northlight engine, and a technology called Digital Molecular Matter. The game was announced in mid-2013 and was set to be released in 2015 but the release was delayed in order to reduce the competiion with its fellow Xbox One exclusives.
This game received a generally positive reception, with critics praising the game’s graphics, gameplay, presentation, and story Critics generally have mixed opinions regarding the plat forming elements, the convergence of video game and TV show, and the overall quality of the TV show. The PC version was criticized for its technical issues. Quantum Break was the best-selling new intellectual property published by Microsoft for the Xbox One.
In this game the player plays as Jack Joyce, who has time manipulation powers in a world where time stutters, making everything freeze except Joyce. Players face a variety of enemies, including typical Monarch security guards; Strikers, who are equipped with specially-designed suits which allow them to manipulate time; and Juggernauts, heavily-armored equipped with very strong firearms.
Different enemies have different behaviors, and the game requires players to deploy different tactics and strategies in order to defeat them. In order to fight them the players can make use of various offensive and defensive abilities. Jack can find four of firearms: pistols, assault rifles, shotguns and carbine rifles.
He is also equipped with an arsenal of time manipulating powers, which increase his efficiency in combat . The game features several types of collectible known as “narrative objects”, including quantum ripples, documents, intel, computers, and media which also give players additional insight into the game’s story and background.
Players can also collect “chronon sources”, which can be used as experience points and to purchase power enhancements.This game also include less action-oriented segments, where players have to solve environmental puzzles while progressing through the game like a 3D plat former.
While going further there will be obstacles that block the player’s way. jack can overcome them by slowing down or stopping time, so that he can proceed without getting hurt. He can also revive frozen non-playable characters.
In the game , the video game portion tells the story of the protagonists while the show tells the story of the antagonists. Players can make choice as the antagonist in the beginning of each episode of the TV show, also known as “junction points”. These decisions influence the state of the game. As Paul Serene has precognitive power, players can view the result and consequence of each choice before making the decision.
Time Stop::freezes time around enemies with a time bubble. If the player shoots an opponent trapped in the bubble, the damage is amplified and will kill the enemy when the bubble vanishes after a short period of time.
Time Rush::This ability allows him to dash next to an enemy and perform an immediate melee take down. He can also use this power to speed up time and dodge between covers to confuse unaware enemies as to his location.
Time Blast::This ability is used to levitates enemies and freezes them.
Time Shield::This defensive ability is used to deflects all incoming attacks from the enemies. It is very useful ability in the game which protect the player from death.It is mostly useful when no.of enemies surrounded the player.
Time Dodge::This ability allows players to dash quickly to evade attacks from the enemies. Using this ability the player can take less damage and confuse the enemies. This ability is mostly useful when there are less enemies far from each other.
Most of these time manipulating powers have a short cool down period after use.
Guns::In this game the player can find four types of firearms: pistols, assault rifles, shotguns, and carbine rifles.
